If you’ve been doing something the traditional way for decades, you probably don’t even have to think about your processes during your day-to-day tasks. There’s a certain amount of security that accompanies doing things the same way for a long time.
But there comes a time when the old way of doing things just isn’t compatible with modern technology. At first you might be able to get away with continuing your old ways, but at some point, it’s time for an update.
Implementing new construction software into your business can be difficult. Everyone needs to learn how to use the software, and it will take some time and training to get everyone up to speed. You may even feel that you can’t do your day-to-day work as efficiently while you’re learning the program. The good news is that once you understand your new software, you’ll be able to accomplish so much more in a shorter amount of time long into the future.
In this post, we’ll look at some general guidelines for implementing new construction software into your business.
Using new construction software, like an estimating program, will revolutionise the way you do business. You’ll be able to create and print reports faster than ever before, combine estimating and takeoff seamlessly, minimise errors and second-guessing, and see your project in 3D during the estimating phase. Clearly, the upgrade will be worth the hassle. But you still need to get buy-in from staff at all levels. The transition will not go smoothly if you have some people actively resisting the change.
One of the best ways to get buy-in is to explain how the change will specifically help each person. When each person understands how he or she will benefit from the change, getting everyone on board will become much easier.
Choose one member of your staff to oversee the entire transition from your old system to your new software. This person will be responsible for communicating with everyone else about the changes and should be available to answer questions, create the timeline, and handle concerns as they arise.
Although some people like to learn software by just ‘playing around with it’, everyone will get up to speed faster with some hands-on training. We offer great training and support services to new and existing customers getting up to speed on Cubit.
Depending on your company size, you might want to do training on a departmental level since certain employees will use some features more than others. Once everyone is trained, you’ll need to revisit issues as your staff adjusts to the new software. Questions will arise and you may need to take time to explain some processes over again. Encourage everyone to be patient through this process. The sooner everyone is comfortable with the software, the sooner you’ll begin to see great results.
After you have finished your implementation plan, evaluate the process and make notes about what worked well and what didn’t. This won’t be the only time you’ll make technology changes in your company. If you record your successes from this transition, you’ll be able to replicate them next time you need to make changes.
